To truly understand how your child learns, we start with a comprehensive learning evaluation.

This evaluation allows us to look beyond grades and homework to identify how your child thinks, processes information, and approaches academic challenges.

The goal is simple:

to replace guesswork with clarity and create a learner profile that guides the next steps with confidence.

👉 What This Evaluation Is (and Is Not)

This is not a traditional academic test.

It is a process-based learning evaluation designed to understand how your child thinks, learns, and approaches academic challenges—not just what they know.

During this evaluation, we look at:

  • How your child approaches reading and writing tasks

  • How they organize their thoughts and manage assignments

  • How they problem-solve and respond to challenges

  • The strategies they use (or don’t yet use)

  • Mindset patterns that impact confidence, effort, and follow-through

The purpose of this evaluation is to create a learner profile that explains why your child may be struggling and what will actually help—so decisions moving forward are thoughtful, targeted, and effective.

What This Evaluation Is Not

To make this clear and stress-free, here’s what this evaluation is not:

  • ❌ Not a timed or high-pressure test

  • ❌ Not a grade-level placement exam

  • ❌ Not a diagnostic label or clinical assessment

  • ❌ Not a review of school grades or homework

  • ❌ Not a sales call

There is no pressure to enroll in any program after the evaluation.

This step exists solely to give you clarity, insight, and direction.

Why This Matters

Many families spend years guessing—trying programs, tutors, or strategies that don’t address the real issue.

This evaluation replaces guesswork with understanding, so any next step you choose is based on what your child truly needs, not trial and error.

What We Look At During the Evaluation

This evaluation focuses on how your child learns, not just how they perform.

Rather than testing for right or wrong answers, we observe patterns, strategies, and habits that explain why certain tasks feel hard—and where support will make the biggest difference.

During the evaluation, we look at:

🧠 Thinking & Problem-Solving

How your child approaches new or unfamiliar tasks, works through challenges, and adjusts when something doesn’t go as planned.

📚 Reading Processes

How your child makes meaning from text, handles complex passages, and uses strategies to comprehend and retain information.

✍️ Writing Processes

How your child organizes ideas, structures responses, and moves from thinking to written expression.

🗂️ Organization & Task Management

How your child plans, sequences steps, manages time, and keeps track of assignments and expectations.

🔁 Strategy Use

Which strategies your child already uses effectively—and which ones are missing, underdeveloped, or inconsistently applied.

💭 Mindset & Learning Habits

How confidence, frustration, effort, and persistence impact your child’s learning and follow-through.

Why This Matters

When we understand how your child approaches learning, we can identify the root cause of struggles instead of treating symptoms.

This allows us to recommend support that is targeted, intentional, and effective—rather than more of the same.

What You’ll Walk Away With

By the end of the evaluation, you will have clarity, not more questions.

This process is designed so that even if you choose no additional support, you still walk away with insight that makes a difference.

Here’s what you’ll receive:

📄 A Personalized Learner Profile

A clear, easy-to-understand overview of how your child learns, including strengths, challenges, and patterns that affect progress in reading, writing, organization, and problem-solving.

🧭 An Explanation of What’s Getting in the Way

Insight into why certain tasks feel hard for your child—whether it’s missing strategies, executive functioning gaps, or mindset blocks—so struggles finally make sense.

🧠 A Clear Starting Point

Specific guidance on what to focus on first to support your child effectively, instead of trying everything at once.

🧩 Recommendations Tailored to Your Child

Thoughtful, individualized recommendations based on your child’s learner profile—never a one-size-fits-all approach.

💬 A Parent Debrief

A conversation where we review the findings together, answer your questions, and make sure you understand both the what and the why behind the recommendations.

Why This Matters

Many families invest time and money into support that doesn’t address the root issue.

This evaluation ensures that any next step you take is intentional, informed, and aligned with how your child actually learns—so support finally works.

What Happens After the Evaluation

After the evaluation, there is no obligation to move forward with anything.

The purpose of this process is clarity—not commitment.

Once you’ve reviewed your child’s learner profile and we’ve talked through the findings together, you’ll have the information you need to decide what feels right for your family.

Your options moving forward are simple:

  • You may choose to implement the recommendations on your own

  • You may decide to seek support elsewhere

  • Or, if appropriate, we can discuss what support through Back2Basics might look like

Any recommendations are based solely on what your child actually needs, not on fitting you into a program.

There is no pressure, no urgency, and no one-size-fits-all solution.

Why This Approach Is Different

Many families are asked to commit to programs before they fully understand the problem.

This process works in the opposite direction.

We evaluate first.

We understand the learner.

Then—and only then—do we talk about next steps.

That way, every decision is intentional, informed, and aligned with your child’s needs.
