✍🏻What If I Told You

That A 6-Letter Word Is The Difference Between A Struggling Student And A Success Story?

It's True.

The Word is SKILLS.

Your Problem May Come From 1 of 2 Buckets...

Bucket #1

Your child is getting straight A's, but somehow you feel like there's something missing in your child's academic arsenal.

If you reside in BUCKET #1, it's time ⏱️ to take a look at the REALITY of GRADES.

Good grades can be deceiving. If your child isn't acquiring skills in English, as the years progress, the gap widens, and then, all of a sudden, your child is going from straight A's to C's and D's. I've seen it happen time and time again.

Getting straight A's is no longer a sign of success.

It simply means that your child can sit quietly in a classroom and memorize facts and details.
Learning SKILLS is not quiet and it has nothing to do with memorization.

Learning SKILLS has to do with mastery and progress, not final grades and pass and fail.

Bucket #2

Your child has been struggling since the 4th grade, and you have no idea what to do. Teachers can't help. Tutors don't move the needle.

If you reside in BUCKET #2, it's ⏱️time to take back your evenings, your weekends, your money, your joy, and your family.

✨IMAGINE...
No more
❌late-night meltdowns,
❌blank stares, or
❌homework battles.

Just
✅confidence,
✅clarity, and
"I've got this, Mom."🙌🏻

Hi! My name is

Vannesa Martinez

Founder of  Back2Basics Learning Co.

Here's a Snapshot of The Problem.
I love teaching.
But, I don't love the educational system.

I made a decision in the spring of 2024, that I was not going to be part of the problem any longer.

I saw way too many kids struggling, even the straight A kids.

My students were literally losing their minds trying to keep up with the demands of the school day. Why? Because they did not have systems in place that allowed them to have success.

They were just putting out fires all day long, and as I used to say, "chasing the bus."

It was an endless cycle of anxiety, procrastination, and excuses.

IMAGINE THIS...
It was like trying to row a boat when there were holes everywhere.

Unfortunately, when you are a teacher in the classroom, it is almost impossible to plug up the holes as you are rowing.
Imagine how hard it would be for a kid.

Let me ask you, does your child...

  • get overwhelmed with writing assignments and doesn't know where to start?

  • struggle with putting ideas into clear, complete sentences?

  • get poor grades, even though they know the material?

  • get frustrated, avoids writing, or says they "hate school"?

  • get told by teachers that they are smart, but their writing doesn't reflect it?

  • just want someone to teach them HOW to do it?

So, by the time your child reaches middle school, they're expected to write full essays, right?

But, if no one has taught them HOW to actually write, it could be a frustrating task leading to procrastination, late grades, and eventually apathy towards school.

When this happens, I will bet you a million dollars that they are just assignment-stacking in English class instead of skill-stacking.

You see, the English teacher is THE ONLY one responsible for teaching ENGLISH skills like
HOW TO take notes
HOW TO use the process of elimination
HOW TO write a cohesive paragraph
HOW TO write an essay

You get it? We are the HOW-TO teachers.

And when your child gets a teacher who says the old, "Do as I say, not as I do," you can bet they aren't teaching your child anything but how to get frustrated with absolutely no light at the end of the tunnel.

Frustration compounds, the more skills your child is missing, the more frustration sets in.

Think about trying to fix the leak in the sink with a spoon and a fork. Yup, that bad. 🥄

Here's the deal:
"I BELIEVE ALL CHILDREN HAVE THE ABILITY TO LEARN,
BUT THEY HAVE TO BE TAUGHT THE SKILLS FOR SUCCESS.
MY PROGRAMS BUILD SKILLS, INDEPENDENCE, AND CONFIDENCE - IN THAT ORDER."

The Solution

Create my own program to fill learning gaps and build confident kids one skill at a time.

I created Writing Basics the year I left the classroom, in 2024.

I was excited and eager to teach the SKILLS I knew my students were missing.

I developed a FOUNDATIONAL program that taught the skills they SHOULD HAVE LEARNED from 3rd grade all the way up to 8th grade.

Now, remember, English is a SKILLS class, not a content class.

It is MY JOB to give my students the skills for success.

My program starts with text structures. This is important because just like every house has a blueprint, so does every story, article, poem, and joke. They need to know structure to understand what they are reading and to be able to write.

I teach them how to outline, how to write a cohesive paragraph, and finally how to write a full essay
I added the RACES strategy for FRQ's.

Everything I do is to help my students SUCCEED in school and in life.

💫Just a few of the transformations...

"Better reading, writing skills and executive functioning skills."

Ana S. 7th grade mom

"His writing and reading scores went up. He enjoyed the class and was very motivated to continue to read and write. My son looked forward to English class. He became
more and more confident and Mrs. Martinez encouraged him to participate fully in class activities. She was also fair in scoring the student work and her assignments were not “easy” but highly complex as well as challenging. My son struggled to begin a writing assignment in the past. Mrs. Martinez has completely changed that. I feel that Mrs. Martinez truly cares for all her students’ well being and encompasses the values that are taught in a jesuit school. especially Magis : above and beyond and Cura personalis: care of the whole
person. She was aware of his needs and fostered an environment of growth in academics, socialization and self esteem."

Tammy D. 6th grade mom

"AJ enjoyed the class & learned a lot! "

Victoria F. 7th grade mom

"Before Mrs. Martinez’s class, Luciano struggled with writing and lacked confidence in his abilities. However, by the end of the first semester with her teaching method, guidance and encouragement, I noticed a significant change in his approach towards writing.

Through her instruction and support, he began to see himself as a capable and creative writer. Her positive reinforcement and constructive criticism helped him develop writing skills and build confidence in his own voice.

I am incredibly grateful to Mrs. Martinez for instilling this newfound confidence in Luciano and helping him realize his full potential as a writer and overall student. Her guidance will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on his academic success and overall self-esteem. Thank you for empowering Luciano to embrace his writing talents and believe in himself. "

Maria V. 7th grade mom

"Mrs. Martinez genuinely demonstrates not only a true passion for her profession but genuine care for her students. She knows how much to challenge them to make them the best they can be, making them responsible for their studies while supporting them along the way. "

Sara S. 6th grade mom

"Adrian went into Mrs. Martinez’s class with little confidence. He was with her in 6th and 7th grade, and those were big growing years for him. He decided he didn’t like Mrs. Martinez’s assignments and complained often. He rebelled. But Mrs. Martinez never gave up on him and continued to guide him through those rebellious days with a firm yet supportive hand. From there, a love and great appreciation bloomed for Mrs. Martinez, for both Adrian and me. Today, he will say he owes his strengths in writing as well as greater maturity to Mrs. Martinez. "

Michelle P. 7th grade mom

"Mrs. Martinez has had a profound impact on my child's academics and overall wellbeing. Her dedication to teaching writing skills has significantly boosted my son's confidence in his abilities. Thanks to her professionalism and passion, he's now equipped with the tools to excel in writing, which will undoubtedly benefit him in the future. "

Gabriela T. 5th grade mom

"Mrs. Martinez offered such a fun learning environment for the children. She pushed Nicolas writing ability and reading comprehension skills through various tools such as annotations, vocabulary exercises, and really fun projects that helped the students learn without making it feel like work. One of my personally favorite things was how she incorporated teaching logic into her lessons. My son was very very happy in her class."

Silvia M. 6th grade mom

"She was a great teacher and really helped my son develop his writing skills. "

Lourdes Z. 4th grade mom

🥳"My son went from hating writing to help his friends with it."

Patricia A. 5th grade mom

"This course was the missing link. We finally saw grades go up, not just in ELA, but across the board."

Jenny G. 6th grade mom

"The lessons are clear, simple, and easy to follow. My daughter felt confident for the first time in years."

Maribel R. 7th grade mom

"Mrs. Martínez strengthened my son’s ability to pay attention to detail and surprisingly, teach him about the importance of perspective, which he has applied to both his learning and life environment. He is a better student because of her. "

Patricia A. 5th grade mom

"My child found a safe haven in Mrs. Martinez’s class. He was able to open up and freely. She taught him how to express himself on paper, how to really find the depth of a thought. She taught him how to read beyond the printed words. "

Alexa Y. 5th grade mom

"My child learned how to be a better student because of Mrs. Martinez. She totally transformed him. He is now doing very well in school and is completely independent and confident as a result of her amazing teaching style."
