After 23 years of teaching in both public and private school systems, I have learned 7 things to be true:

1. A good elementary school is one that teaches SKILLS: writing skills, reading skills, grammar skills, speaking and listening skills.

2. In middle school most teachers stop teaching skills.

3. To be prepared for high school, for college readiness tests, and to do well academically, a child needs to be taught SKILLS in English class all the way through from K-12.

4. There is no other purpose for an English class than to teach the children reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.

5. Once kids are taught SKILLS, they can do anything, and their confidence and self-esteem stay intact.

6. If kids are expected to complete a task and they do not have the skillset required to do so, they will change. Their grades change and their personality changes.

7. If your child does not have the skillset to do the work, I will teach them and they will be successful.

How to know if
WRITERS REPULIC
is a good fit for
your child...

  • Your child is constantly frustrated with school.
  • Your child has meltdowns or becomes withdrawn.
  • Your child is on an emotional rollercoaster that takes a sudden dip that coincidentally coincides with the testing calendar.
  • Your child cannot organize his/her thoughts.
  • Your child procrastinates.
  • Your child doesn't follow through on assignments.
  • Your child avoids writing assignments.
  • Your child gets low grades on reading comprehension tests where they are asked to apply skills.
  • Your child has given up and doesn't care about his academic success anymore.
  • Your child's self-esteem and confidence is on the floor.

"His writing and reading scores went up. He enjoyed the class and was very motivated to continue to read and write. My son looked forward to English class. He became
more and more confident and Mrs. Martinez encouraged him to participate fully in class activities. She was also fair in scoring the student work and her assignments were not “easy” but highly complex as well as challenging. My son struggled to begin a writing assignment in the past. Mrs. Martinez has completely changed that. I feel that Mrs. Martinez truly cares for all her students’ well being and encompasses the values that are taught in a jesuit school. especially Magis : above and beyond and Cura personalis: care of the whole
person. She was aware of his needs and fostered an environment of growth in academics, socialization and self esteem."
Terri, Middle School Mom

"Before Mrs. Martinez’s class, Luciano struggled with writing and lacked confidence in his abilities. However, by the end of the first semester with her teaching method, guidance and encouragement, I noticed a significant change in his approach towards writing.
Through her instruction and support, he began to see himself as a capable and creative writer. Her positive reinforcement and constructive criticism helped him develop writing skills and build confidence in his own voice.
I am incredibly grateful to Mrs. Martinez for instilling this newfound confidence in Luciano and helping him realize his full potential as a writer and overall student. Her guidance will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on his academic success and overall self-esteem. Thank you for empowering Luciano to embrace his writing talents and believe in himself."
Jeannie, Middle School Mom

"Mrs. Martinez genuinely demonstrates not only a true passion for her profession but genuine care for her students. She knows how much to challenge them to make them the best they can be, making them responsible for their studies while supporting them along the way."
Malena, Middle School Mom
